Sendai City of Stars "Shishin" Masamune brought down the stars in the sky to the earth
What are the four gods?
In the Chinese study of feng shui, it has been believed that the gods of birds and beasts dwell in the four directions of north, south, east, and west.
In Japanese Feng Shui, the action of natural environmental energy is seen in the formation of the earth, and it is revered as "the land corresponding to the four gods" with great good fortune.
In Sendai, a six-pointed star barrier (magic) was applied starting from the Honmaru, which should be protected.
In the Chinese star map, the 28 mansions (constellations) are divided into four groups of 7, and the four gods are placed in each group. As a result, the angles of the four directions, east, west, north and south, are all different; however, these angles match the angles of the four gods placed in Sendai.

North Genbu Kameoka Hachiman Shrine
Kameoka Hachimangu Shrine is located on a straight extension of Jozenji-dori Street heading west. It was built by the fourth feudal lord, Lord Tsunamura. It has been the guardian deity of the Date clan since the first lord, Lord Tomomune, and it was the first shrine that Matsuo Basho and Sora visited when they came to Sendai, so it is clear that it was an important shrine. Kameokayama is said to be an artificial mountain made of piled up earth.
Seiryu of the East Matsushima Seiryuzan Zuigan Enpukuzenji Temple
Matsushima Seiryuzan Zuigan Enpuku Zenji Temple is a sacred place for the Date clan in Matsushima, which was once known as Koyasan in Oshu. Zuiganji Temple was rebuilt by Kosai Soitsu, the teacher of Lord Masamune. A plaque handwritten by Kosai Soitsu entitled "Matsushima Hojoki" remains. The placement of the four gods requires advanced knowledge of astronomy, which suggests that there were many highly knowledgeable people in the Date clan.
Southern Suzaku (Phoenix) Zuihoden
The phoenix is a red bird, and in the Shi-Uma divination, the south is fire, so it can also be called the firebird. This is one of the places where the Shi-Uma divination was performed in hopes of Masamune's immortality and rebirth. It is said that Masamune himself left a will asking that he be buried here at Kyogamine after his death. As it was a forbidden place for many years as a sacred area for the Date clan, the natural environment has been maintained in the same way as it was during the feudal era.
White Tiger of the West Mount Taebaek
Mount Taihaku was once called "Oide no Mori" (Forest of Birth), and legend has it that it suddenly appeared one day. It can be seen from the sea, and has been revered as a landmark by fishermen. Taihaku is also a symbol of the west, and in the five elements, the west is "metal." The ancient Chinese book "Huainanzi" states, "The god is Taihaku, and the beast is the white tiger," clearly describing the relationship between Taihaku and the white tiger.
